Well, its now less than 2 weeks before I finally start my RTW trip and just thought I might as well close this blog, because if I was lazy enough to never update it before I was even travelling I can foresee I will never do it whilst doing it!
I am leaving on the 14th to London, and on the 15th to the USA for the first leg of my trip that will take me through Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand and many other faraway places for over 8 months.
Sooo I will just use good old fashioned emails to friends and family so they know where I am and what Im doing.

Bueno, ya estoy a menos de 2 semanas de empezar mi viaje por el mundo y voy a cerrar el blog, porque si apenas me dieron ganas de escribir cosas antes de viajar me imagino jamas lo hare una vez este en la carretera!
Salgo el 14 de este mes para Londres, y el 15 hacia los Estados Unidos para la primera parte de mi viaje que me llevara por Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Australia, Nueva Zelanda y muchos otros lugares lejanos por mas de 8 meses.
Asi que voy a usar emails para que mis amigos y familia sepan donde estoy, y que estoy haciendo durante mi viaje.

Here we go
Ya que empezo el 2008 aprovecho para actualizar mis planes de viaje. Estuve pensando mucho ultimamente y basicamente mis opciones eran dos.
1- Salir en febrero como estaba planeado originalmente pero quedarme menos tiempo (o cambiar mi sistema digestivo para que acepte el aire como alimento)
2- Posponerlo algunos meses y tener suficiente dinero para poder tomarme todo el tiempo que quiera (y comiendo!)
Tambien estuve hablando con mi amigo Ashley que esta haciendo un RTW ahora mismo -estuvo en Samoa hasta hace poco y ahora andara por Sidney donde se encuentra con mi hermano Joaquin para ir hasta Perth- y dadas sus recomendaciones respecto a los costes y mis ahorros tome la decision de posponer la salida por unos meses.
Como me dijo el, voy a estar en lugares con colores hermosos, calidos y magicos (mi traduccion no le hace justicia je) y donde hay cosas para hacer que cuestan dinero, y no vale la pena ir para no hacerlas por estar sin un cobre (como bucear, comprarme una tabla de surf, tomar barcos entre las islas, etc). Tambien me dijo que las islas son mucho mas baratas que Australia y Nueva Zelanda. Por ejemplo un "bure" en Samoa (es algo asi como una choza al lado de la playa), le salio 15/20 euros con comida incluida.
Para mayo voy a tener alrededor de 7.5k euros que cubririan bien los gastos de 10 meses de viaje en total por el Pacifico (sin incluir Argentina que serian 2 meses mas). Asi que la nueva fecha de salida seria a mediados de mayo y las fechas quedarian asi.

Asi que llegaria a Rosario alrededor del 20 de marzo de 2009, justo a tiempo para festejar? mi cumpleaños el 23. Me quedo 2 meses ahi viviendo de la caridad de mis amigos y familia (gracias por adelantado jaja!), y el 15 de mayo estoy de vuelta en Londres exactamente 1 año despues del comienzo de mi viaje... ya pedi que me manden el presupuesto a www.roundtheworldflights.com, asi que si todo va bien para el mes que viene ya tengo todos los billetes.
Enero, febrero, marzo y abril... 4 meses mas de trabajo no son un precio muy elevado a pagar por la playa que me espera al fin del camino.

Since 2008 has already started Im updating my travel plans. I've been thinking quite a lot lately and I was basically left with two options.
1- To leave in february as originally planned but cutting short the trip (or modifying my digestive system so that it accepts air as food)
2- To postpone it a few months and have enough money to stay as much as I want (and eating as well!)
I was also speaking to my friend Ashley who is doing a RTW right now -he was in Samoa until recently and now is probably in Sydney where he will catch up with my lil' bro Joaquin and then do a cross-country to Perth- and given his recommendations regarding costs and my savings I've made the decision to wait a few months until I leave.
As he said, I will be in marvelous places with beautiful warm magical colours (such a poet he is), and where there are things to do that cost money so its not worth it to go all the way over there to miss out on them (like diving, buying a surfboard to lug around, taking boat trips between the islands, etc). He also said that the islands are much cheaper than Australia and New Zealand. For example a "bure" (which is like a thatched hut) in Samoa was something like 15/20 euros a day inc food.
In may I will have around 7.5k euros which would cover the 10 months of travelling through the Pacific pretty well (not including the 2 months in Argentina). So my new departure date is mid-may and the flight dates would be like so.

I would stay 2 months there living of the charity of friends and family (thanks in advance haha!), and on the 15th of may I would be back in London exactly 1 year after I departed... I've already requested the flight budget at www.roundtheworldflights.com, so if everything goes well I will have all the tickets next month.
January, february, march and april... 4 more months of work are not such a high price to pay for the beach waiting for me at the end of the road.

A Long December
Esta mañana me levante (tarde como siempre), para ir al trabajo. Como llegaba tarde no me apure. Desayune algo que no me lleno, y decidi caminar un poco antes de ir a tomar el metro y cuando me quise dar cuenta me habia perdido por las calles de Madrid.
Por suerte me habia llevado mi mp3 asi que estaba escuchando canciones mientras miraba a la gente sin mirar, caminando sin rumbo. Que año raro pensaba, y mientras pensaba esto sonaba una cancion que me recordo a algo, o a alguien.
... I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her. And its been a long december, and theres reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last ...
Tal vez estoy triste por el invierno, o por las cosas que no pude darle. Pero espero tener motivos para creer que tal vez el proximo año sera mejor.

Money and itinerary woes / Dilemas de dinero e itinerario
I've been checking my finances and they dont look too hot at the moment, so instead of january I might end up leaving in february or early march at the latest. The real issue is that I cannot postpone the trip that much as Joko is coming back from Melbourne in june and of course I want to go whilst he is there, and secondly that I dont want to travel through OZ and New Zealand in the middle of the winter! I do have an ace up my sleeve tho, that involves the Spanish social security and... ahem... you can figure out the rest.
The other thing is that I would like to change the itinerary, but I'm not sure if its allowed to swap countries in your round-the-world route... as for me it would be best to do LA-Australia-Fiji-New Zealand-Chile-Argentina. There is only one thing I need to change, basically swapping Fiji for Australia in the order.
This is because I wanna be in Australia as soon as possible to catch the summer there, and be in Fiji and the rest of the Pacific Islands (Samoa, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, etc) during the winter. Why? Well winter is the best season to be in the Islands because its around 25ish degrees and its the dry season. The summer is their monsoon season so its not very good!
So the absolute best thing to do -if my finances allow it- would be:
15 of February *London -> Los Angeles*
15 to 30 February: USA (I'd do LA, San Francisco and Tijuana)
1 of March *Los Angeles -> Melbourne*
March/April/May: Australia (I would catch the last part of the summer and a bit of autumn, but it'd be allright temperature wise as I will travel through the coast for 3 months)
1 of June * Melbourne -> Fiji*
June/July/August: Fiji + South Pacific Islands (as many of the other Pacific islands as I can afford... like I said before, perfect time to go.. loads of sun, warm weather and sandy beaches!)
1 of September *Fiji -> Auckland*
September/October/November: Nueva Zelanda (I would get the spring and beggining of the summer... awesome time to visit Kiwi land)
1 of December *Fiji - > Santiago de Chile*
Not sure how long I will be able to stay in Chile. I'd love to visit around but by then I will be absolutely skint.
?? December *Santiago de Chile -> Buenos Aires*
Summer in Rosario! And with no money! But hey, what are friends for... :P

He estado viendo mis finanzas y no se ven muy bien, asi que en vez de enero probablemente salga en febrero (o principios de marzo como muy tarde). Hay una sola cosa que debo cambiar, y seria el orden de viaje entre Fiji y Australia.
Esto es dado que quiero estar en Australia lo antes posible para agarrar el fin del verano alli, y estar en Fiji y el resto de las islas del Pacifico Sur (Samoa, las islas Cook, la Polinesia Francesa, etc) durante los meses de invierno (junio, julio y agosto), porque es la mejor epoca ya que hacen 25+ grados de temperatura con clima seco. En esa zona el verano no es bueno para ir porque es epoca de monsones y llueve todo el tiempo.
Asi que lo mejor para mi, si mis finanzas lo permiten, seria:

Didnt know what to write...
So I decided to post a random photo of me and Ashley once upon a time in some random pub in Brighton (with a fitting name). The bugger is off on his own round the world trip next month, and we will probably meet up in Australia in february. Very untrustworthy fellar, almost as crazy as me some would say.

El vil metal
Estaba el otro dia haciendo los calculos de cuanto me va a costar diariamente vivir mientras este de viaje y con cuanto dinero voy... creo que los numeros hablan por si solos.
Ahorros aprox Enero 2007: 6500 € - costo del billete round the world: 2000 € = 4500 €
25 € diarios x 30 dias = 750 € mensuales = 6 meses
O sea que con dichos ahorros voy a poder vivir exactamente 6 meses del año que pienso pasar viajando (y estoy calculando 25 euros diarios ya que no cuento el costo del alojamiento porque pienso dormir... ehhh... bueno, en el Pacifico Sur se puede dormir en cualquier lado!). Asi que la conclusion es que voy a tener que trabajar si o si para poder comer en los otros 6 meses a menos que de repente mi organismo acepte la no ingestion de alimentos.
Pero bueno, algo se me va a ocurrir... algo siempre se me ocurre!

Into the Wild
I saw this today and felt identified.. not too much, as the story doesnt have a happy ending. But heck, he went for it when most people just let their lives pass in front of their eyes.
