Esta mañana me levante (tarde como siempre), para ir al trabajo. Como llegaba tarde no me apure. Desayune algo que no me lleno, y decidi caminar un poco antes de ir a tomar el metro y cuando me quise dar cuenta me habia perdido por las calles de Madrid.
Por suerte me habia llevado mi mp3 asi que estaba escuchando canciones mientras miraba a la gente sin mirar, caminando sin rumbo. Que año raro pensaba, y mientras pensaba esto sonaba una cancion que me recordo a algo, o a alguien.
... I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her. And its been a long december, and theres reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last ...
Tal vez estoy triste por el invierno, o por las cosas que no pude darle. Pero espero tener motivos para creer que tal vez el proximo año sera mejor.

Money and itinerary woes / Dilemas de dinero e itinerario
I've been checking my finances and they dont look too hot at the moment, so instead of january I might end up leaving in february or early march at the latest. The real issue is that I cannot postpone the trip that much as Joko is coming back from Melbourne in june and of course I want to go whilst he is there, and secondly that I dont want to travel through OZ and New Zealand in the middle of the winter! I do have an ace up my sleeve tho, that involves the Spanish social security and... ahem... you can figure out the rest.
The other thing is that I would like to change the itinerary, but I'm not sure if its allowed to swap countries in your round-the-world route... as for me it would be best to do LA-Australia-Fiji-New Zealand-Chile-Argentina. There is only one thing I need to change, basically swapping Fiji for Australia in the order.
This is because I wanna be in Australia as soon as possible to catch the summer there, and be in Fiji and the rest of the Pacific Islands (Samoa, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, etc) during the winter. Why? Well winter is the best season to be in the Islands because its around 25ish degrees and its the dry season. The summer is their monsoon season so its not very good!
So the absolute best thing to do -if my finances allow it- would be:
15 of February *London -> Los Angeles*
15 to 30 February: USA (I'd do LA, San Francisco and Tijuana)
1 of March *Los Angeles -> Melbourne*
March/April/May: Australia (I would catch the last part of the summer and a bit of autumn, but it'd be allright temperature wise as I will travel through the coast for 3 months)
1 of June * Melbourne -> Fiji*
June/July/August: Fiji + South Pacific Islands (as many of the other Pacific islands as I can afford... like I said before, perfect time to go.. loads of sun, warm weather and sandy beaches!)
1 of September *Fiji -> Auckland*
September/October/November: Nueva Zelanda (I would get the spring and beggining of the summer... awesome time to visit Kiwi land)
1 of December *Fiji - > Santiago de Chile*
Not sure how long I will be able to stay in Chile. I'd love to visit around but by then I will be absolutely skint.
?? December *Santiago de Chile -> Buenos Aires*
Summer in Rosario! And with no money! But hey, what are friends for... :P
So that would be the ideal scenario... now lets see if I can get my shit together.

He estado viendo mis finanzas y no se ven muy bien, asi que en vez de enero probablemente salga en febrero (o principios de marzo como muy tarde). Hay una sola cosa que debo cambiar, y seria el orden de viaje entre Fiji y Australia.
Esto es dado que quiero estar en Australia lo antes posible para agarrar el fin del verano alli, y estar en Fiji y el resto de las islas del Pacifico Sur (Samoa, las islas Cook, la Polinesia Francesa, etc) durante los meses de invierno (junio, julio y agosto), porque es la mejor epoca ya que hacen 25+ grados de temperatura con clima seco. En esa zona el verano no es bueno para ir porque es epoca de monsones y llueve todo el tiempo.
Asi que lo mejor para mi, si mis finanzas lo permiten, seria:
15 de Febrero *Londres -> Los Angeles*
15 a 30 de Febrero: Estados Unidos (Haria Los Angeles, San Francisco y Tijuana... no puedo ir por ahi sin visitar Tijuana!)
1 de Marzo *Los Angeles -> Melbourne*

Didnt know what to write...
So I decided to post a random photo of me and Ashley once upon a time in some random pub in Brighton (with a fitting name). The bugger is off on his own round the world trip next month, and we will probably meet up in Australia in february. Very untrustworthy fellar, almost as crazy as me some would say.

El vil metal
Estaba el otro dia haciendo los calculos de cuanto me va a costar diariamente vivir mientras este de viaje y con cuanto dinero voy... creo que los numeros hablan por si solos.
Ahorros aprox Enero 2007: 6500 € - costo del billete round the world: 2000 € = 4500 €
25 € diarios x 30 dias = 750 € mensuales = 6 meses
O sea que con dichos ahorros voy a poder vivir exactamente 6 meses del año que pienso pasar viajando (y estoy calculando 25 euros diarios ya que no cuento el costo del alojamiento porque pienso dormir... ehhh... bueno, en el Pacifico Sur se puede dormir en cualquier lado!). Asi que la conclusion es que voy a tener que trabajar si o si para poder comer en los otros 6 meses a menos que de repente mi organismo acepte la no ingestion de alimentos.
Pero bueno, algo se me va a ocurrir... algo siempre se me ocurre!

Mas info
Bueno, estuve dandole vueltas a mi plan de viaje y por ahora es algo parecido a esto... las fechas de los vuelos las tengo que confirmar de antemano asi que el billete lo sacaria asi. Despues nunca se sabe que puede llegar a pasar por supuesto! Pienso comprarlo el mes que viene si mis finanzas lo permiten, y me saldria alrededor de 2000 euros. El viaje es de un año justo porque es el maximo de tiempo que tenes entre el 1er billete y el ultimo de la vuelta al mundo.
Dentro de las fechas de cada vuelo puedo viajar donde quiera dentro del pais que este por supuesto, asi que durante los tres meses en Australia y los seis en Nueva Zelanda voy tratar de dar vueltas por todos lados y durante el tiempo en Argentina probablemente me quede en Rosario porque ya no voy a tener un mango.. asi que vayan preparandose para invitarme a comer jaja. En los Estados Unidos me quedo poco porque quiero ir rapido para el Pacifico Sur y ademas porque es un poco caro, asi que solamente dos semanitas para surfear en la costa de LA y nada mas. En Fiji tambien un par de semanas solamente porque no da para mas que eso, ya que si quiero viajar por las islas del Pacifico lo voy a hacer desde Nueva Zelanda.
El plan de vuelo seria asi entonces:
20 Enero 2008: London - Los Angeles
3 Febrero: Los Angeles - Fiji
24 Febrero: Fiji - Melbourne
25 Mayo: Melbourne - Auckland
23 Noviembre: Auckland - Santiago Chile
23 Noviembre: Santiago Chile - Buenos Aires
20 Enero 2009: Buenos Aires - London
Como no tengo dinero suficiente para viajar por un año entero, voy a tener que trabajar (aunque va a tener que ser de ilegal) de tiempo en tiempo. Bah, a menos que me case con una Australiana por la nacionalidad... nunca digas nunca! Si es asi no me vuelvo mas jaja...

Alrededor del mundo en un monton de dias / Around the world in a lot of days
Bueno, he empezado a planear mi viaje. Estoy usando http://www.roundtheworldflights.com/, y viendo las fechas en que la salida sale mas barata lo mas probablemente es que salga el 16 de Enero del año que viene.
Por ejemplo, un viaje: London - US Single Stop - Fiji - Australia Stop - New Zealand Stop - Santiago - Buenos Aires - London(o empezando por Bs As y terminando en los EEUU), con las fechas abiertas (o sea que puedo quedarme el tiempo que yo decida en cada lugar), me saldria alrededor de 1400 Euros saliendo a partir del 16 de Enero.. nada mal.
Hay muchas mas opciones y añadir un par de lugares mas no cuesta tanto, asi que tal vez mi viaje alrededor del mundo sea mas largo que 80 dias como en el libro de Verne. De hecho, leyendo el site dice que tenes hasta 1 año para usar todos los vuelos por lo que podria estar viajando un tiempo interesante...

For example, a trip: London - US Single Stop - Fiji - Australia Stop - New Zealand Stop - Santiago - Buenos Aires - London(or starting with Bs As and ending in the US), with open dates (meaning I could stay how much I wanted in each destination), would cost me around 1400 Euros which is not too bad.
There are many other options, such as adding more destinations which wouldnt make it much more expensive. So I'd end up travelling around the world for longer than 80 days as in Verne's book. In fact, reading the site again it mentions that you have up to a year to use all your flights so I could by travelling for a fair bit of time...

First post

Ernest "Papa" Hemingway used to say it was the best story he had ever written. I'm not sure I agree, but then again who the heck am I to contradict him? So I decided to start off with this short story as usually blogs are full to the brim with metaphysical divagations, wrapped around prose sweet enough to give you a toothache. I'm not a big fan of that kind of writing so with Papa's permission I will try and be the most concise, clear and stoic possible.
I thought about starting a blog for a couple of reasons. One was that both of my brothers have one, and of course I cannot let those two maggots get one over me. And the other that I will be travelling quite a lot from the end of the year onwards, and writing here will be easier than sending mass emails that no one will ever read (having a blog that no one ever reads is way better than sending emails that no one ever reads, clearly). So here I am, kicking it off with this post because I had to start sometime, and today was as good a day as any.
Where will I be travelling, my dear reader might ask (or not, as many of you won't give a flying fuck whether I will be travelling, staying put, or locked up in a prison cell with a very big and very bald white guy, that has "LOVER" tattooed on his chest). Well, since I myself don't give the same flying fuck -or other flying fucks really, as there are probably lots of them flying around- I'm going to tell you anyways. So like I was saying I will be travelling to the South Pacific, that very remote and very amazing part of our world. I will start off in Australia (Melbourne first as my little brother Joaquin is living there), and then move around cangaroo land until they kick me out... which will probably be after 3 months when my tourist visa expires. After that its New Zealand for (you guessed it, a further 3 months) and then I will just roam the South Pacific islands looking for beaches to surf in, palm trees to sleep under and booze to get drunk on (not necessarily in that order).
So that is it. No fanfare, no fancy story, no nonsense. Maybe it would have been better to write something cooler and a little bit more ellaborate... but then again, Papa wouldn't have approved.
And dammit, Papa knew.
